hey deb

just to let you know that we finished the 50/50 raffle yesterday and the winner walked away with $85. more people bought tickets in the last 45 minutes before the drawing that they did in the month that it was going on. its funny how that works. well we are doing extremely well on the RADA sales, everyone loves it, we are going until March 9th. We still have a bake sale coming up and perhaps a couple of more raffles. will keep you updated.

Hey Deb:

thanks for everything that you did to help me through this. my question is when is the next convention and where? do we have any idea? I would love to know so that the fundraising can begin. I am trying my hardest to get more people involved, but as you know from my previous entries, it makes it hard because of the administrative team. People are seeing that they are not that interested, so they don't have the willingness to want to help or support their peers. I tried to get them more involved in the fundraisers and NAHCA in general but without success. It really gets frustrating sometimes and dont know what else to do. Maybe things will be better next year.

Hey There ,
Good to hear from you, been wondering how you are doing. I can't remember if you told me you would be at convention this year? If so, we have a new committee formed now called the Leadership Developement Consultants. They will be having a booth set up at convention and should be able to help you out with possible ways of dealing with difficult staff. Give yourself credit for your accomplishments thus far and don't give up on it. I know how hard and frustrating it can be but you can win them over. I think one of the main issues for all of us is the lack of understanding of what the Association is truly about and what they can do for us. By your attending convention, this has given you some insight to it that others have not been exposed to yet. Hang in there and just keep plugging away at it, eventually you will see some heads start to turn around and start asking you questions. Do you have any NAHCA brocures or any type of information about the association that you can pass around or put in your breakroom for people to look at ? Let me know ok. There hasn't been any talk yet of the 2011 convention yuet but no doubt now that it has been changed to June, it will probably be that month but where ie unknown at this point. Did you ever find out what type of membership your facility has? There are a couple of different types. Maybe you can find that out. Were you able to raise enough funds to send more than one aide to convention and have you's registered yet? The early bird discount is very close now, check on the website for the dates and you can register there as well ok. Here is my email addy if you would like to email me ok it is dpittsmember@nahcacares.org Keep me posted and don't give up, let me know what else i can try to help you with. Do you have any of Lori's pep talk videos?? I'll look forward to your next post. By the way, you are welco9me too !! Deb

hey deb

well we have talked to the administrator and he has said that the facility will pay for the same amount of people that we are able to send in other wards, if we can send 2 then the facility will send 2 and they will also pay for the hotel. Transportation will be the only problem, i dont know who will be able to drive their vehicle, the facility will not pay for mileage reimbursement. But at least it is a start. In the last few weeks i have sprained my knee and have not been able to work it is a possibility that i may have to have surgery. I dont know what is happening right now with who wants to go when i was there last i put up a notice that we were looking for people to go, and to let me know if anyone was interested. Then i got hurt and haven't heard anything yet. Im hoping that things are going good and that there are people that are interested in going to experience what i have experienced in the past. and no we dont have any pamphlets on NAHCA at the facility, im sure that they will come in handy to let people know about NAHCA and what we are all about. I hope to be back on my feet within the next few weeks so that i can pick up where i left off. GOD BLESS YOU DEB and all you do!!!!!!

Wow Nanc,
Everything is great news except your knee . You are just doing an awesome job there, good for you, just keep it up. Am really glad to hear what your Adm. said about it all. Not a bad deal for you's, better than some get. If you don't get people to sign up then pick some that are somewhat positive to start with so they go and experience it but more importantly will come back on the same page as you which then will give you some help to get started and really moving for next year. You alone have done so well, i commend you for hanging in there and staying with it ! I knew if you did you would succeed with this, am really proud of you !! This year we have a new committee called the Leadership Developement Consultants, these are former Steering Committee members and they will be having a booth set up at convention with all kinds of help for newly formed leadership teams. Make a point to find them and they can help you with brochures and info to help you get your team really going better and give you alot of info to work with, ok. I also look forward to meeting you too, so you may have to track me down too but lets plan on that too ok. Now, i only hope you get your knee in shape by then or we may have to push you around in a w/c !! Is your DON or ADM planning on attending convention too? If not you may want to encourage at least one of them to go as well, it would really give them a better understanding of all of it too. Have you's registered yet ? You might want to get that done soon too and i would also get your rooms booked now too. Remember when doing that to tell them your with NAHCA ok. WEll sure was glad to hear from you have been wondering how you were doing. Good luck with your knee, keep me posted and congrats on all your efforts here. Deb :P

hey deb:

hey my knee is doing a lot better in fact i get to go back to work on Monday and I cant wait. Im not used to being off work this long im going NUTS :o :o :o . Anyway the last time that i talked to the nurse that is helping with NAHCA, she said that noone has come and said that they want to go to the convention. But i told her that i will b back on monday and that il will talk to people and get the word out some more. i did notice that it was announced in the monthly announcements that we get with our paychecks though, so maybe there will be some response now. Our rada sales did outstanding, we made enough $$$$ to send another person to the convention which means that we r sending 4 to the convnetion. im soooooo happy :D :D :D i will work hard when i get back to find people to go and experience the awesomness that i have experienced in the past. Hey Nanc,
Really glad to hear that your knee is better know what ya mean about being off work it's tuff hey? And great job on your knife sales, awesome that you's can send another aide that is really supper !!! Have you's registered yet, if not you really should and also for the hotel, make sure you let them know that you's are with nahca tho ok. deadline is soon for a guarnteed room ok. I would get yourselfs registered for convention too tho soon, this year you can register and they have a deferred payment wich will be due in early may i beleive so that is nice for all of us. Boy, i can't wait to meet all of you's so hunt me down ok !! You will get some others to go too may have to talk a little as they have no clue at this point but once they go they will want to go again but wait till they come back and tell everyone else, things will really start to get alot easier for you now that you can get a few to go with. They can help you after it's over for next year. I am really proud of you and all your accomplishments with your facility, i know it was a rough start but you sure have pulled it off, congrats to you !!! Keep in touch now too ok . I still do wonder how things are going and am always here for questions or anything i can do to help out ok. Looking forward to June Deb

hey deb

thanks, im trying to get the administrator to send one person, get the hotel and get a car for us to take to the convention. We are having trouble finding people to go because they dont want to have to take their car. It is about a 5 1/2 hour drive to there and they are not reimbursing for mileage this year since they are getting the hotel. im trying my hardest to get to go but the nurse in charge is insisting that new people go and i dont mind that. it would b awsome. i just got done talking to another cna about NAHCA because she asked how does she become a member and i told her that as long as she works here she is a member. she said that she wants to go to the convention cuz i gave KUDOS about what goes on there, i told her that not only will she learn a lot but she will have fun doing it and she is gonna wanna come back over and over again.

WEll i am hoping to meet you and they would be wise to send you since you have been there , at least that way you can show them the ropes too. You know how it feels when you go and it is so over whelming but you don't know what to do next and all that. Keep trying on that one, i do understand where they are coming from about sending new ones tho. WE go thru that in my facility too. Being in the position that i am it's not as much as an issue for ours as i can sort of lead them some if they seem lost or tell themk wht to expect. Now if they will go for a car that will work out good too. I can see where that would be an issue also, just remember, next yesr after a few more get their feet wet here, things will lighten up or these little problems you have right now, i would think you will see some changes from your employees about alot of this stuff. First year will be your hardest but your'e doing good so far. So you really aren't so very far from ok buy the looks of it. If my group drives it's a 17 hour ride but our DON said she's not driving this year, so they will fly which will be nice for them. Did you's get any nominations sent in ?? If so, you may want to wait and see if you have any winners and if you do those are the people you want to send ok. If not, i guess keep plugging away at it all. If you don't get a car from work, you have time if someone will take theirs to do some more fundraisers to use for your gas there and back. It
's another option for you to use. People might be a little more flexible if they think you's will help with the financial part of the trip such as something like that. Good luck with your final arrangements for everything and keep me posted. Sure hope they will consider letting you go too. I should be working the registration tables so you probably can find me there when you's first show up or it would be a good place to find out where i am at when you arrive ok. Your'e on a roll so keep rolling. Say, don't know what your weather is like in April, but i tell ya a car wash would go over well as a fundraiseer if you can do it at your workplace . WE do well with that one. Good to pick up some last minute bucks . Deb
